The Loaves and Fishes SW Detroit Jazz Concert scheduled for this Friday, October 14th has been cancelled.

Dear Friend of Loaves and Fishes Southwest Detroit,

We are writing to you in a time of unprecedented illness and isolation for many in our communities. The COVID-19 pandemic restrictions have closed workplaces, churches and social outlets. It is unknown when these restrictions will be lifted. As Christians we can still reach out and help others who are suffering more than we are during these difficult times. Supporting the ministry of Loaves and Fishes Southwest Detroit is one way to accomplish this. Now the need is greater than ever.

LFSD was created in 2005 as a collaborative approach to eliminating hunger in the Southwest Detroit area. We help fund food purchases to five food pantries and several soup kitchens as well as overseeing the proper storage and delivery of nutritious frozen food to these charitable organizations. We also coordinate Thanksgiving and Christmas Outreach Programs to brighten the holiday for hundreds of our underprivileged clients.

All these efforts are supported by donors such as YOU! The 2020 Sister Eileen Lantzy Memorial Wine Tasting in February was a success and raised over $4,000. LFSD also received almost $14,000 from the Al Pedrosi Memorial Golf Outing in June of 2019. These fundraisers are the major events that sustain our food ministry, THANK YOU for your support. This year, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we will not be able to hold our June golf outing. Because of this, LFSD needs to raise $14,000 to make up for this funding shortfall. You have been generous to LFSD in the past and for this support we THANK YOU! Now we are asking you to help us raise the $14,000 we need by responding to this Spring Appeal with a check. Each of us can make a difference in helping to eliminate hunger one person at a time.

LFSD is currently helping with outdoor Mobile Food Pantries at Our Lady of Guadalupe and Ste. Anne de Detroit. This Gleaners model allows for safe, effective food distribution while keeping social distancing and proper sanitation. We are also coordinating the safe distribution of the many frozen foods we offer our clients at the Perry Center, St. Alfred’s, New Mount Hermon Baptist Church and Lighthouse Ministries in Westland.

The organizations LFSD supports make a huge difference in the lives of hundreds of area families. None of this is possible without your financial help in keeping donations flowing. You have been generous in the past and we THANK YOU. Please continue to help us aid God’s poor children by responding with a check today.

God bless you. May He keep you safe and healthy during this difficult time.

Spring is in the air and hopefully gentle healing as well.

Yours in compassionate service to the poor,

Anne Zaragoza – Board President LFSD
Fr. Ed Zaorski – Founding Pastor LFSD

We appreciate your generous support!
